Maharaj then exclaimed in a loud voice,

"Is there any Sadh who can stay in this shrine?

"How will Gurbaksh stay fixed here and from where will he eat?

and we will be present in the Darbar.

Within your minds, do not experience any amount of sorrow or pain.

Saying this, Maharaj gave forbearance.

in a way that they will have nowhere left to go/a path to escape from." ||30||

Khwaja Mardood yelled at all of them in anger.

He then spoke to Bhim Chand and said,

"Why have you stopped your regiment? ||31||

The general of Lahore, Zabardast Khan,

dauar chalayo pakaran shree gur ko

also arrived in an attempt to capture the Guru.

beshumaar jim nis andhayaaree

An endless number of armies were now gathered, as the darkness of the night sky

sainaa umaddee sabh ikavaaree ||33||

and they all advanced forward in a moments notice. ||33||

gur sooraj ko pakaran het

They came to capture the Guru, who were like the bright and shining sun,

geh geh aayudh umadde khet

all holding their weapons within their hands.

Some ran forwards and some backwards,

dauarat jaat girai ko khaat ||34||

and some fell into pits while running in search for the Guru. ||34||

kitik parasapar lagahin dhakele

Some were running and pushing into each other

baajee larat saooran mele

Some were racing their horses forward with great speed but these horses would end up fighting with one another;

kar tooranataa pahunche aae

and in short time, the enemy arrived,

singhan ko peechhe jahin jaae ||35||

to where the Singhs were marching forward. ||35||

sun kai shabad hattaavan kare

The Singhs yelled and told whoever was advancing to stop, and asked,

kauan aho tum raheeeh khare

"Who are you? Stay put!"

due dish dushaman jaane ge

But when the Singhs saw the enemies from both sides

shasatran geh suchet sabh bhe ||36||

The guns were then aimed towards the enemy

chhuttan lagee sanamukh rip shamanee

and ready to be fired in order to obliterate.

The Turks and Hill fighters were advancing to fight

tab jaanee singhan sudh saaree ||37||

and the Singhs now understood what was about to happen. ||37||

eisee het satiguroo hattaavat

What was happening now, is what Maharaj was warning all the Singhs about before.

samujh singh sabh chit pachhutaavat

The Singhs now regretted not staying within the fort like Maharaj had commanded.

ab kayaa hoe chhor gadt dhaae

But what could the Singhs do now after leaving the fort;

laribe sanamukh hee ban aae ||38||

they now had to face off with the enemy and fight to survive. ||38||

shree gur kitik door chal aage

Maharaj then travelled a bit further,

khare ajeet singh ris jaage

and the warrior spirit of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji had awoken.

turakan anee ki mugal patthaanaa

The enemies--Turks and Pathans,

ghire aan kar aayudh paanaa ||39||

entrapped the Singhs and were provoking battle. ||39||

chhutte tarraabharr tupak tarraake

The sounds of gunfire then resounded

mile beer dtig adhik larraake

and the great warriors now met one another on the battlefield.

shayaam timar mahin dhukhe paleete

In the darkness of the night, the fuses of the guns were sparking

chamakahin bahu prakaash kau keete ||40||

and in turn, brought forward great light and illumination. ||40||

jim khadayotan ko samudaaee

Just as the fire-flies shine bright after sunset,

chamakat hai is bidh damakaaee

in the same way, the dark battlefield had been illuminated.

shabad hot jim gaajat gaaj

And just as there were great sounds upon the battlefield, it was as if thunder was resounding within the skies.

sail ttol par bhatt tar saaj ||41||

The enemies came down, looking from afar, as if they were trees of dense forests. ||41||

door door lag shabad sunante

The sounds of war were heard from far and wide.

gulakaa shookat chhuttain turante

The bullets were ferociously travelling at high speeds and great velocities.

chamoon turak kee charrh kar aaee

The Turk army was now advancing forward for battle,

traasahin door door thirataaee ||42||

but was left standing far away from [due to what was beind seen and heard from the battlefield]. ||42||
