Chapter 13
In a land drenched with spiritual history, Guru Gobind Singh Ji arrives near Guru Ki Lahore, leading a resplendent wedding procession. The atmosphere is electric, musical instruments resonate, and ceremonial flags flutter in the wind. His prospective in-laws, led by vigilant Uncle Kirpal Chand, meet the procession with equal grandeur, as if two great rivers of joy are merging.
When the time was right, Bhai Harjas and Mama Kirpal Chand exchange gifts and embrace one another! The elder Masands, religious emissaries, are given wealth to distribute generously, mimicking the rain-clouds showering life-giving water. Amidst this, the 'milni,' a traditional meeting, takes place with heartfelt blessings, as anticipation for the marriage grows.
The baraat continues, finally reaching the auspicious location where the marriage will take place - now known as Gurdwara Sri Guru Ka Lahore. The atmosphere is ethereal; celestial damsels and deities take earthly forms to be part of this auspicious occasion. As they arrive, coins shower down like blessings from the sky, and the atmosphere is electric with music and fireworks.
The Laavan ceremony, the spiritual heart of the Sikh wedding, soon begins. Guru Ji, the master of the world, and Mata Jito Ji perform multiple phere, or circumambulations, solidifying their union. This is followed by a grand feast, where food akin to amrit is served, and the air is filled with playful songs and jests.
As night turns to dawn, the gathering winds down. Everyone awakens to sing hymns and meditate on the divine name. It's a world abundant in every sense, where celestial beings serve the Guru's household, and there's no shortage of anything.
The house of the Guru is forever helpful.
